Thou Art Worthy!

Have you ever heard it said, "We are all 'unworthy' of eternal life, but Christ died for us regardless?"

Could it be that it is we ourselves who have believed erroneously that God judges in this fashion? How does God judge? How does He view mankind, and even you yourself? Does He look at your deeds and judge you according to those deeds? Or does He look upon you in some other fashion; maybe even as His very own son or daughter, loved, but struggling to find life? Is God judging, or at least judging in this fashion? Or is it someone else, maybe even we ourselves? Listen to what Luke recalls for us from the book of Acts —

Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said (unto the Jews of his day), — It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. (Acts 13:46)

Jesus deemed all men worthy of eternal life at the cross, loving us and giving his life for our sins, being raised for our justification (declaring us innocent before him in love). Jesus compassionately prayed to the father on our behalf, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." -- The fervent prayer of this righteous man (Jesus), God heard; and it availed completely!

It is in believing this testimony that we find ourselves possessing eternal life. It is in ’putting that testimony away from ourselves’, as the Jews did in this instance, that we find eternal life forever eluding us; striving to attain it.

Believe the testimony of God! He has judged you worthy of eternal life and has given it to you! For this life is in His Son. Do so, and you will find yourself possessing the eternal, indestructible and incorruptible life of God Himself!

And there is an added benefit in all of this. In that life you will find yourself no longer judging men according to the flesh (according to their deeds good or evil), but according to the Spirit, condemning no one, loving all!
