Being a pilot, someone involved to some degree in aeronautics, I also have a fleeting interest in astronomy; the study of the universe.
I had a crazy thought recently. I was considering the vastness of the universe.
So I thought to myself, if I boarded a space ship and took off in one direction at the speed of light, which happens to be 186,000 miles per second), a speed which is completely unattainable in the world in which we presently live. How far one could travel at that speed? Of course, this is all but impossible, as you would literally have to become light in order to attain to that speed.
Then I thought, 'Forget the speed of light! What about 10 times the speed of light, or 500 times, no maybe lets try 1 billion trillion times the speed of light. So this became the question, 'Would I ever reach the end of the universe?' Then I thought to myself, 'even if I did reach the end of the universe, what is after that? For surely if there were an end to all we see, the universe itself would need be cradled in something else. This then would also continue on forever!'
Then I came to a conclusion. There is no end to the universe; and the thought overwhelmed me. To think that we live in an environment where there is no beginning or end; a place that goes on forever is a shocking, unfathomable thought. But an utterly awesome thought, and it is completely true.
Then I thought of Moses. How he stood in front of a burning bush, that burned but was not consumed. And the angel of the Lord spoke to Moses from the bush. He said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrow." "And I have come down to deliver them"
Then Moses asked the Lord, "When Pharoh asks, 'who is it that sent me? what is his name?' How shall I answer him?" Then God said to Moses something that came to Him in the twinkling of an eye, He said, "I AM THAT I AM, thus shall you say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."
So as I consider the unending nature of the universe itself, as I consider Gods Words to Moses, "I AM THAT I AM, tell my children, I AM hath sent me unto you"
Then I considered the words of the Psalmist, David --
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor.... O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! (Psalm 8:3-9)
Can you imagine? In all this vastness, He considered us. And He visited us in His Son Jesus; considering our afflictions, even experiencing them as us. He took away the sin of mankind on the cross, and glorified us in His Eternal Resurrected Life, crowning us with the Honor and Glory of His Son. Not by righteous deeds which we have done, but solely due to his unfathonable love for us; as vast as the universe! Only to be believed on in the world.
Believe then, and reign with Him in His universe, even today!
